Copenhagen Sprint passes the difficult second test: A cycling celebration, a cycling nation, and world-class racing on Danish roads

Copenhagen Sprint 2026 strengthened its position this weekend as Denmark’s international ‘cycling classic’ in the making. In only its second edition, the race passed what is often the difficult second test: another major celebration of cycling, another strong statement from Denmark as a cycling nation, and another weekend of world-class sprinters racing on the roads from Roskilde to Copenhagen.

When the men’s race brought Copenhagen Sprint 2026 to a close on Sunday, the partners behind the event could look back on a weekend where elite sport, strong host cities, and public engagement once again came together.
Along the route from Roskilde, through the Zealand municipalities and into the final stretch in Copenhagen, spectators turned out to cheer, celebrate and create a true cycling atmosphere for both the world’s best riders and the many fans along the roads.
In both Roskilde and Copenhagen, the weekend offered activities, mass-participation cycling, music, and a festival atmosphere. There was also plenty of festivities along the route in the municipalities the race passed through, underlining how Copenhagen Sprint is becoming a shared event across communities.
After last year’s successful premiere, the key question was whether Copenhagen Sprint could build on that momentum. This weekend showed that it could. The difficult second edition became a strong second edition, confirming that Denmark can both attract world-class sprinters and create a broad cycling celebration for spectators, cities, and local communities.
Tobias Hoff, CEO,Copenhagen Sprint, said:
“Copenhagen Sprint has once again shown that Denmark is a cycling nation in a league of its own. We have seen world-class racing on the route, strong support from the spectators, and a public celebration that brings cities, citizens, and cycling together. We have also had a truly fantastic team of volunteers who have been indispensable and have made a huge difference. The difficult second edition became a strong second edition on every front, and that gives us even more to build on towards next year.”
Copenhagen Sprint will return on 12–13 June 2027, when Denmark will once again welcome riders, teams, fans, and international visitors to a weekend of world-class cycling.
Winners
Women: Lorena Wiebes, SD Worx-Protime
“Of course, I hope I can come back next year and make it a hat-trick. I like Denmark, and I have many good memories here both from my two victories in Copenhagen Sprint, but also from becoming junior world champion here in Denmark.”
Men: Jasper Philipsen, Alpecin-Premier Tech
"It was a very hectic day. Just like last year, there was a crash on the final lap, which is a shame for those who were looking forward to a bunch sprint. I just hope everyone is okay. All the teams did a good job of leading the peloton. The pace was really high. I don’t know the exact speed, but it felt fast. I’m very happy with my form. A win is important; now it’s just a matter of finding those last few per cent ahead of the Tour de France."

Lars Lundov, CEO, Sport Event Denmark
- Copenhagen Sprint 2026 has truly been at high speed this weekend. We can now look forward to the race returning on 12–13 June 2027 and hopefully to Copenhagen Sprint continuing, beyond 2027, its development towards becoming the international cycling classic we are all working to build.
Morten Anderson, president, Danish Cycling Federation
- Copenhagen Sprint already proved in just its second year that it’s a summer tradition here to stay. Both the sporting setup and the popular celebration were world‑class - even in a year when the weather wasn’t on our side. That everyone takes part in the cycling festival, from BørneTour and Future Racing to mass rides and the WorldTour, says everything about how big cycling is in Denmark. I’m extremely happy and proud of that — and deeply grateful to all the volunteers who make it possible.
Bonus facts
- Approximately 600 individual volunteers
